ISLINGTON COUNCIL CONSULT ON ADDITIONAL LICENSING OF HMOs
Islington Council has begun a public consultation seeking views on the introduction of an additional licensing scheme for HMOs in Holloway road and Caledonian Road.
If adopted, the scheme will give the Council additional powers to control these properties in response to the growing concerns it has in this area about poor housing conditions and management of privately rented properties, including shared houses/flats and buildings converted into self-contained flats.
The consultation follows a programme of street surveys carried out over the summer which found clear evidence of poorly managed HMOs in Caledonian Road and Holloway Road.
The consultation closes on Friday 9 January 2015 after which the results will be analysed before a report is made to the Council's Executive in April 2015 asking them to review the consultation and decide if the scheme should be adopted.
