LENTON & WOLLATON EAST WARD NEWS:
Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
You can find out about the City’s programme of events for the Jubilee here Queen's Platinum Jubilee - Nottingham City Events - Visit Nottinghamshire (visit-nottinghamshire.co.uk).
We have been glad to be able to financially support several local community events organised by Abbey Lodge, Dunkirk & OId Lenton Community Centre, Palmer Court, the Sheila Roper Centre, Wollaton Park Community Centre and Wollaton Park Residents’ Assocation, and hope everyone has a lovely time.
Changes in responsibilities
At the Council Annual General Meeting early in May, Dave stepped down as Lord Mayor, Sally stepped down as Deputy Leader and continued her role as Portfolio Holder for Energy, Environment & Waste, while Pavlos became a Portfolio Holder, responsible for Leisure, Culture & Planning.
Road Safety Derby Road
We are glad to see the improvement works to the stretch of Derby Road from Canning Circus to the Lenton Boulevard junction have been completed, and we hope these will have positive impacts on safety for all road users.
We have been working with Lilian Greenwood to tackle issues on the QMC to Priory Island section for some years, and we had a meeting with National Highways, who have said they will meet us again at the end of June, to come forward with plans to make improvements.
We attended a lovely family event at Lenton Rec to celebrate the Blossom Together project, where we chatted to lots of residents who were enjoying the new avenue of trees, food and relaxing activities in the sunshine.
Travellers on Lenton Abbey Park
We had another visit from Travellers on Lenton Abbey Park, who were evicted quickly, with less damage done than previously. We have been asking for a solution to this repeated problem, and although it is difficult, the Council have now sought advice, and we are pursuing plans to make it much more difficult in future.
Farndon Green History Board
We have agreed funding for an information board to be installed on Farndon Green to celebrate the history of the area, and would like to thank Sue Twyford for her work on this project.
Sutton Passeys Wollaton Park Entrance
We are delighted that, after a long time of asking, we are going to get a new disabled friendly entrance to Wollaton Park from Sutton Passeys Crescent, this will particularly benefit wheelchair users who have struggled for years with the heavy gate.
We attended the Abbey Lodge residents’ meeting where many issues were discussed, we are following these up with Stonewater who run the facility.
A ward walk was held in the Castle Boulevard area, with a range of issues raised.
Nottingham Forest Homecoming Event
Pavlos and Sally were honoured to attend the Civic Reception to celebrate the success of Nottingham Forest at Wembley and their promotion to the Premier League. It was a very uplifting day, the atmosphere in the Old Market Square was joyful.
Our next community litter pick will be held on Tuesday 21st June, at 10 am, meeting by the Savoy Cinema.
