LENTON & WOLLATON EAST WARD NEWS:

June 2022

June was another busy month, with lots of work taking place around the area.

New Resident Development Officer

We now have a newly appointed Officer, who is responsible for helping to co-ordinate things in the local area. She will be working with us and Wollaton West ward and she has made a really good start. Her name is Minerva Hartley, and her email address is Minerva.hartley@nottinghamcity.gov.uk.

Platinum Jubilee Events

Several events took place in the ward and we were glad to meet with local residents and enjoy getting together in a way which hasn’t been possible for so long. We would like to thank all the local volunteers who helped get these events organised.

“The Blossoms” Lenton Abbey

The much loved green space outside the shops on Woodside Road is being refurbished, funded through our ward budget. So far the knee rails have been renovated, the gazebo has been rebuilt and the block paving repaired. New railings and planting are coming soon.

Big Spring Clean

On the 21st we were glad to join a large number of Clean Champions, school children and others for a litter pick in Lenton, a great deal of litter was collected. Thanks to all our Clean Champions for their commitment to the local area.

Travellers

We had another visit from a large group of Travellers, who were on the University field, near the Serenity Garden. This was very disruptive for residents and staff at the Co-op and great concern to the Forever Stars Charity, which had just recovered from previous damage caused. The University dealt with the issue as speedily as possible, and now are working on plans to make these encroachments much more difficult in future.

Park Improvements

The Parks team are developing plans to make improvements to Lenton Rec, using money paid by developers through the Planning Department. We discussed ideas and issues raised by local residents with them. We expect more details to follow soon.

The improvements to Kennington Road Playground we allocated funding to some time ago should be underway soon.

Jubilee Campus

We met with staff from the Education Department of the University to discuss plans for an outdoor learning space on campus. After discussions we were happy that their plans will not adversely affect nearby residents.

Social Hub, Sheila Roper Centre, Tenants Hall Close, Lenton Abbey

Come and join local people for breakfast, chat and games, on the first Friday of the month 10-12, all welcome.
