January 2021

The infection rate in the ward is the lowest in the City, so thank you everyone for respecting the lockdown rules to keep your neighbours safe. The Lord Mayor and Leader of the Council held a candle lit vigil outside the Council House last night to show respect for the 500 people who have passed away in the City from covid 19, a very sad statistic.

Covid 19 Vaccinations

Vaccinations are under way. The local NHS have now made the vaccine available to all over 70s, and those who are younger clinically extremely vulnerable will be getting letters shortly inviting them to book.

Booking appointments online is usually quite simple, please try to get yourself and family members booked in as soon as possible Online Appointment Healthcare Platform | Swiftqueue if this fails you can use the telephone number but you may have a long wait 0115 8834640. If all else fails please try our City Council Customer Hub 0115 9155555 who will do their best to get your problems resolved.

Covid Testing

Besides the normal testing which has been going on for a few months, if you are worried about passing the virus on to friends or family, if you are working, or live in a multigenerational household, it may be useful to get a regular test for anyone not showing symptoms at the Djanogly Leisure Centre on Gregory Boulevard. It’s open Monday to Friday 9.30 am to 6.30 pm and Saturday 9.30 am to 2.30 pm. You don’t need to make an appointment, just walk in. You will get a result in half an hour or so.

Other Pandemic Matters

There are quite a few Council employees off with covid or self-isolating which is putting extra pressure on services, we know for example that four of our normal Street Scene staff have been moved to help with bin collections.

Early in the year all the local CPOs were self-isolating but they are now back at work and doing their normal patrols plus calling on vulnerable citizens.

Police Report

Local Police Inspector, Amy English recently reported that crime is down across the ward. There is other good news, in March, we will be getting a new PC allocated to the area.

We talked to the University about complaints about students playing football in studded boots on Lenton Rec causing a great deal of damage to the grass. The University have now made extra space on campus for kick about games and are working with the Sports Clubs to deter people from using the Parks.

Crown Island Underpass

Some time ago we received grant money for a replacement mural for the underpass. We hope a replacement will be going up towards the end of February which will brighten it up and the lining will also be spruced up shortly.

Wollaton Community Centre Food Bank

Pavlos visited the new Foodbank at the Community Centre on Harrow Road to find out about their work. They are open for donations and to give out parcels on Thursday mornings.

Tree Planting

Several trees are due to be replaced soon where there have been losses in the last year funded from our local ward budget.

We wish you well and remind you we are still around, reporting issues and working with officers to ensure work is carried out in the ward. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
