Dunkirk, Lenton and the QMC became national news on 28 September 2013 when hundreds of spectators watched as a new 1,000-tonne, 62-metre bowstring steel bridge was lifted into position.

The bridge, part of the NET Phase 2 development, is the most imposing of a series of structures which will form a 300-metre elevated tram route through the Queen's Medical Centre, across the Nottingham Ring Road, and down into the University of Nottingham's University Park campus.
